Stamp on Ribbon

The Sept. SOM from Close To My Heart is fun to use and here I've stamped on some grosgrain ribbon to spice up a little card I made. Use the V and the small rose to create this ribbon.

Double Pop Up

Everyone loves a homemade card and the Stamp of the Month for September from Close To My Heart is the perfect stamp set for lots of fun cards as well as a great Alphabet set for fun additions to your scrapbooks. I think it's fun to add a little something special to the inside of the card as well, a double pop up for images or sentiments that adds an extra smile. Here's hoping that my first tutorial is easy to follow. This is a card I made for a special friend for his birthday.

Home from Camping

We had a great time this past weekend, beautiful weather, wonderful event with lots of friends. This was a special time spent at the Nansemond Pow Wow in Suffolk, Va. It would only have been better if the city council had finally after 6 long years agreed to give back to the tribe a small portion of the land the White settlers took away almost 400 years ago. There are 2 hold outs, even the major wants to do the right thing. We can only hope and say a special prayer that one of the men will see what is the right thing to do and be swayed to change his vote.
Katie, my sheltie, Larry and I arrived early Friday morning and set up camp. Our pop up camper quickly becomes a real home away from home. Katie had a blast and is the best camp dog ever, never straying from camp and greeting everyone that stops by like you came to see just her. And some of them did, she wins over everyone she meets. We spent Friday afternoon helping to set up the Pow Wow site and helping the vendors who arrived set up their wares for the weekend. Good food and good times was the fare of the weekend. The drums beat thoughout the weekend and it was great to see some friends we haven't seen since last year at this time.
Well, I've got lots of stamping to catch up with. Have a unit meeting and as always, I'll be doing my swap cards at the last moment. The stamp of the month for September is so much fun, I've already done some out of the box ideas with it. I'll post some later today if I get a chance.

Ghost in the shadow technique

This is probably one of my favorite cards yet. Stamp your design with Versamark. The background is done by placing a jagged piece of masking tape at angles on a piece of glossy cardstock and rubbing ink with a makeup sponge in a circular motion onto the cardstock. Move the masking tape and continue across the paper. Then go back over the images and stamp just to one side with colored ink. The result is a ghost like image in the background or shadow.

Thoughts on Journaling

I'm getting ready to sit down and work on some scrapbook layouts and was thinking about how important journaling is to my books. I once heard a saying I feel is so true and important. " They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but after time a picture with no words is just a picture". My heritage scrapbook is probably the most important album I've yet to create. It combines three of my great loves, my family, geneology and scrapbooking. I've tried to worry more about the content than the artistic and combined extensive journaling about the lives of my ancestors. Each question that is answered in geneology leads to dozens of other questions and the quest for more knowledge of one's family goes on. My hope is that by my creating this album, my living family and generations yet to come will feel connected to the past and gleam a little bit of the pleasure I receive by looking at and learning about the past generations that make them who they are.

How much journaling should you include on your pages? Look at a typical page of one of your scrapbooks with someone that wasn't with you when the event was taking place. If you have to explain what was going on, who the people in the pictures are, when it was taking place, then chances are you haven't journaled enough on your page. Do you want someone in the future to be able to know the when, where, and who of your pictures? Then journal it now so they will be able to associate with it. After all you are creating the Heritage books of tomorrow, today.

Christmas in August

Here's my first attempt at a post. Hope it works. All images are produced by using CTMH acrylix stamps.

Dry embossing of snowflakes was done using a cuttlebug embossing folder and my sizzix machine and white daisy card stock. Once embossed lightly brushed with Heavenly blue CTMH ink using direct to paper technique.

New Endeavor

I love to create new artwork for my cards and scrapbook pages and I love to share them. So for my friends both near and far, I've decided to start this site to make sharing fun and easy. I hope that you will visit often, post comments so I know you are visiting and ask questions if you have any.
I've got some tried and true techniques to share and I'll be posting some new ones as I try them out.
Right now we, in Virginia are in the mist of the hottest days of the year. Records are being broken in all the cities and I truely hope that all are staying cool and remembering your elderly neighbors and pets.
I have been working on some Christmas cards, I'm hoping that mind over matter will prevail and it will help to stay cool, thinking of the chilly days of December.
I'll post a couple later which will also give you a sneak preview into one of the new stamp sets that will be available from CTMH in November.
